Hans Hvide was born in 1889 and left for the US in 1909. 

Hans Hvide & Co was founded in Bergen, Norway in 1923. 

The Company started as a shipping agency and represented  Dutch companies in the shipping industry, a few examples; Wilton-Fijenoord (shipyard), Smit (salvage) and Sigma (coatings).

Hans’ son, Harald Mowinckel Hvide, joined the Company after completing his training in Liverpool, UK. Harald introduced offshore in the companies range of activities. Mammoet, a specialist in heavy lift transport, was an important partner in the coming decades.

Robert Hvide Macleod took over Hans Hvide & Co from his grandfather Harald in 2011. The Company now holds a wide range of investments and is based in Oslo, Norway.
